If you're anything like me, you don’t just want to visit somewhere—you want to experience it. And Cala d'Or, with its whitewashed villas, crystal-clear coves, and laid-back charm, is one of those places that really gets under your skin in the best way. I’ve wandered its cobbled streets, snorkelled in its turquoise bays, and watched golden sunsets from hidden spots—and every time, I fall for it all over again.
Whether you're planning your very first trip to Cala d'Or or returning to soak up more of its charm, there are certain places that really shouldn’t be missed. From secret beaches and scenic viewpoints to historic landmarks and buzzing marinas, these are my personal highlights—the 7 best places to go in Cala d'Or that I’d recommend to any friend planning a trip.
So, grab your sun hat, charge your camera, and get ready to explore the absolute best of what this beautiful corner of Mallorca has to offer.
Cala Gran, Mallorca was the first beach I visited in Cala d'Or—and wow, it really set the tone. As one of the largest beaches in the area, it’s got that postcard-perfect mix of soft golden sand and glistening turquoise water. Nestled in a scenic cove, it’s not just beautiful, it’s lively too, especially in summer.
What I loved most was how family-friendly it felt. There were kids splashing around, paddleboards gliding by, and sun loungers lined up neatly along the shore (pro tip: get there early if you want one—they go fast!). The beach is right next to the town’s heart, so you’re only a few steps from cafes, shops, and restaurants when you're ready for a bite or a break in the shade.
If you're planning a beach day in Cala d'Or, Cala Gran is an absolute must.
If Cala Gran is big and buzzy, then Cala Petita feels more like a hidden retreat. Also called Cala d'Or Beach or Golden Bay, this charming little spot stole my heart. The white sand looks almost tropical, and the water is so calm it feels like a natural swimming pool.
Because it’s so close to the marina, I loved strolling along the harbour afterwards to admire the yachts and grab a drink. There are sunbeds and parasols for hire, but honestly, I found a lovely shaded corner under the pine-covered rocks at the edge of the cove—it felt like my own secret spot.
Cala Petita can fill up quickly in peak season, so try to get there early or come in the late afternoon for a more peaceful experience.
Cala d'Or’s marina is hands-down one of my favourite places to visit in town. Whether you go by day or night, there’s always something to see. During the day, I wandered along the edge of the water, admiring the sleek white yachts and popping into boutique shops that sell everything from handmade jewellery to designer clothes.
But evenings are when this place truly comes alive. The waterfront is lined with restaurants and cocktail bars that spill out onto the promenade, glowing under fairy lights and buzzing with chatter. One night, I stayed out until 2 a.m. just soaking it all in—music, cocktails, laughter, and that unbeatable view of boats bobbing in the moonlight.
If you're looking for great nightlife, luxury shopping, or just a magical place to unwind, make sure the harbour is high on your Cala d'Or list.
Just a short 20-minute drive from Cala d'Or, the town of Santanyí feels like stepping into a completely different side of Mallorca. I spent a full day there, wandering through cobbled streets lined with golden-stone buildings, peeking into local art galleries, and sipping coffee under sun-dappled plazas.
What really stood out to me was the market—on Wednesdays and Saturdays, the whole town turns into a bustling maze of stalls. I picked up some gorgeous handmade ceramics, a jar of local honey, and the juiciest figs I’ve ever tasted. There’s also history everywhere you look—from ancient gates like Porta Murada to crumbling old city walls.
If you want a true taste of Mallorcan life, a day trip to Santanyí is totally worth it.
For a laid-back evening, Smugglers Bar in Cala Egos became my go-to. With a terrace that overlooks the marina, this spot is perfect for sunset drinks—I must have taken a dozen photos every time the light hit the boats just right. Inside, it’s got that cosy, nautical feel, and the staff made me feel welcome from the moment I walked in.
Whether you're there for a pint, a cocktail, or just to relax after a day at the beach, Smugglers has that easygoing vibe that makes you want to linger. And the view? Just dreamy.
If you love shopping with a splash of glamour, then Avinguda Tagomago is the place. This chic main street in Cala d'Or is lined with boutiques, designer stores, and souvenir shops—and yes, I indulged in all three!
I found everything from beachwear and handmade bags to local ceramics and embroidered linens that made perfect gifts (and a few treats for myself). You’ll also spot a few yachties making their way up from the harbour, giving the whole street an upscale buzz.
It’s great in the evening too, when the shops stay open late and the street lights add a touch of magic.
If you only take one day trip from Cala d'Or, let it be to Mondragó Natural Park. I spent hours here hiking coastal trails, lounging on remote beaches, and spotting birds soaring through the sky. It felt like nature’s version of a secret hideaway—wild, peaceful, and unbelievably beautiful.
The cliffs here are dramatic, the sand is dazzling white, and the Mediterranean sparkles in every direction. There are two main beaches (S'Amarador and Mondragó), and plenty of shady trails to explore if you’re up for a walk.
It can get busy, especially in summer, so I’d recommend going early or during the shoulder season. Either way, it’s one of the most rewarding places I visited in Mallorca.
u want to visit here, it is best to plan ahead to avoid any busy periods. Alternatively, you can enjoy its beauty with other exploring tourists – there’s room for everyone!
