Whenever I visit Mallorca, I always make sure to spend time in Calvia — it’s one of those places that really captures the essence of the island. Tucked away on the southwest coast, Calvia has this perfect balance of laid-back charm and lively experiences.
From relaxing afternoons on the beach to scenic hikes through the hills, every time I’m here I feel like I’m discovering something new. It’s not just about the stunning scenery either — the little villages, welcoming locals, and amazing food make it one of my favourite spots to unwind and soak up that true Mediterranean vibe.
Whether you’re into adventure, culture or simply want to enjoy the sunshine, Calvia has a little bit of everything, and I’ve personally loved exploring every corner of it.
Calvià is a village in the southwest part of Mallorca, located between the Serra de Na Burguesa and the Serra de Tramuntana. It is tiered with white and ochre coloured buildings dappled through its hills, set in front of Mallorcan mountain ranges, and has become a firm-favourite amongst tourists in recent years.
There are plenty of things to do in Calvià, from visiting pristine beaches to soak up the sun, nearby adventure and aqua parks for those adrenaline seekers, or hiking and cycling experiences for those who are looking for something more active. We’ve rounded up the best things to do in Calvià during your stay, whatever you may be looking to do on your arrival.
Whenever I stay in Calvià, a beach day is always high on my list — it’s just too tempting with some of Mallorca’s most beautiful coastline just a short drive away. Even though Calvià itself sits slightly inland, it’s so well connected to a variety of beaches that you’re genuinely spoilt for choice. Whether I’m in the mood for soft golden sands or a quiet cove to explore, there’s always somewhere nearby to unwind by the sea.
So, if you fancy sunning yourself during your stay, or exploring some local coastline, you’ll favour the suggestions below.
On days when I just want to stretch out on a big, sandy beach with everything close at hand, I make a beeline for Playa de Magaluf.
It’s a classic beach day spot — a gorgeous curve of soft sand, calm turquoise waters, and plenty of lively energy around. I love how easy it is to spend an entire day here; everything you need is right there, from beach bars to cafés, and even fun watersports if you’re feeling adventurous.
Plus, it’s just a quick 14-minute drive from Calvià, making it one of the most convenient and popular spots to hit the sand.
When I’m in the mood for something a little quieter and more natural, Playa Portals Vells is my go-to.
This little gem is only about 20 minutes from Calvià and offers a more rugged, untouched vibe. I especially love the small historic caves tucked into the cliffs — it feels like stepping back in time as you explore them. The beaches here are smaller but super picturesque, with plenty of little corners to discover, making it perfect for a relaxing beach day with a bit of adventure mixed in.
One of my favourite things about Calvià is the local food scene. The village may be peaceful, but it really delivers when it comes to authentic Mallorcan cuisine.
Every time I visit, I make sure to dine at Mesón Ca’n Torrat — it’s the kind of place that stays in your memory. Family-run, welcoming, and serving up mouth-watering local dishes with the freshest ingredients — you can taste the love and tradition in every bite.
It’s such a cosy spot and always feels like a genuine Mallorcan experience.
Whenever I need to recharge with some fresh air and jaw-dropping views, I head up into the Tramuntana mountains.
I’ve hiked parts of the UNESCO World Heritage Site's more times than I can count, and it never gets old. You can go full-on adventure mode with the epic ‘Dry Stone Route’ if you’re up for the challenge, or just take one of the shorter routes near Calvià for a more laid-back wander.
Some of my favourite moments have been sitting at Mirador Es Colomer, soaking in the panoramic views, or driving up to Galilea — a lovely, sleepy village perched high up with postcard-worthy views across the sea.
If you’re into cycling, Calvià really comes alive on two wheels. Personally, I love how flexible it is — some days I fancy pushing myself on one of the more demanding routes like the famous Sa Calobra (the climb back up is a beast but worth every drop of sweat!), and other times I prefer the gentle cycling paths around the village itself, enjoying the rolling countryside at an easier pace.
Either way, the scenery is always incredible and the routes are well maintained, making it perfect whether you’re a seasoned cyclist or just want a casual ride.
I’ll be honest — sometimes you just need a fun, carefree day, especially when the sun is blazing.
Calvià’s proximity to some of Mallorca’s best waterparks and theme parks makes it easy to let loose and cool off.
I always recommend these spots if you’re travelling with kids, or just want a break from sightseeing. It’s one of those guaranteed-fun activities that appeals to everyone, young or old.
Kathmandu Park, located at Calvià beach, is the ideal day out to let your imagination run free! The theme park offers over 10 amazing attractions, as well as its very own water park, Katopia splash park, an underwater-themed attraction with over 150 interactive water elements.
The park also offers onsite eateries for when you need to refuel and an onsite hotel. From the village of Calvià, the waterpark is only a 14-minute drive.
Located in Magaluf, Western Water Park is another fantastic option for those looking for a fun day out for all the family. The park offers a number of attractions, from large slides to inflatable rides, and lazy rivers, offering plenty of opportunities for non-stop fun during a day out. The park can be travelled to in as little as 13-minutes by car from the centre of Calvià village.
No matter how many times I visit, I always end up squeezing in a trip to Magaluf.
It’s just so close — literally 10 or 15 minutes away — and it’s perfect for those days when I want a complete change of pace. From lazy afternoons on the buzzing beach to shopping strolls along the promenade, there’s always something going on. And yes, if I’m feeling up for it, the nightlife is unmatched.
But I’ve also had some of my most relaxing beach days here — so it’s not just about the party scene, it’s about whatever kind of day you feel like having.
I always enjoy a quiet wander through the heart of Calvià village, and a stop at the Church of Sant Joan Baptista is a must every time.
The architecture is stunning, and the atmosphere inside is so peaceful. I love the sense of history it carries — from its 13th-century roots to the striking 19th-century neo-gothic design. Nearby, the ceramic mural at the old fountain is a nice little extra stop that tells you more about Calvià’s story.
Whenever I’m craving a bit of adrenaline, Jungle Park in Santa Ponsa is my favourite escape.
It’s only around a 10-minute drive and tucked away in a massive pine forest, making it feel like a hidden playground. There’s something so fun about ziplining through the trees and tackling rope bridges — it brings out your inner child.
With different circuits for all levels, it’s the perfect place to challenge yourself, have a laugh, and enjoy Mallorca’s natural beauty from a totally different perspective.
Calvià offers an idyllic base to venture out to discover the rest of Mallorca, but in itself is a beautiful local village showcasing the raw beauty and charm of Mallorca.
