There’s something truly special about Santa Ponsa that keeps drawing me back — whether it’s for a quick weekend break or a longer sun-drenched escape. Tucked along Mallorca’s southwest coast, this vibrant seaside town offers a perfect blend of laid-back beach life, family-friendly fun, and just the right touch of luxury. Over the years, I’ve wandered every corner of Santa Ponsa — from its golden beaches and buzzing marina to its hidden walking trails and lively restaurants — and I can honestly say, there’s something here for everyone.
Whether you’re travelling with kids, exploring as a couple, or simply looking for a place to slow down and soak in the Mediterranean magic, Santa Ponsa ticks every box. And while the town itself is compact and easy to get around, it’s packed with pockets of charm and character that are well worth discovering. If you’re planning a trip and wondering where to start, here are my tried-and-tested picks for the best places to go in Santa Ponsa — places I’ve loved, revisited, and would wholeheartedly recommend to anyone looking to make the most of their time in this stunning corner of Mallorca.
Having spent countless sunny afternoons exploring Santa Ponsa, I can honestly say it’s one of my favourite corners of Mallorca. Whether I’m craving beachside relaxation, a great night out, or a quiet cove to read in peace — this laid-back resort town always delivers. It’s not as hectic as Magaluf or as cosmopolitan as Palma, but that’s what makes Santa Ponsa so special. It has just the right mix of energy and calm, plus some of the best beaches and most beautiful sunset spots I’ve ever seen.
If you’re planning a visit and wondering where to go in Santa Ponsa for the best experience, here are my personal top picks — places I’ve loved, returned to, and would absolutely recommend to anyone exploring this gorgeous part of the island.
Santa Ponsa is all about beach days — and it’s easy to see why. With soft sands, calm turquoise waters, and loads of sunshine, it’s the kind of place that makes you want to throw on your swimwear and spend the whole day soaking it all in. These are the three beaches I keep coming back to when I need a proper dose of sun, sea and serenity.
When I first stepped onto Santa Ponsa beach, I was blown away by how vast it was — over 1,300 metres of golden sand stretching out in front of me. It’s the perfect spot if you like having space to spread out, though during the height of summer, it still fills up fast. The water here is usually calm and shallow, making it a great family beach — I’ve seen lots of little ones splashing safely in the bay.
From May to October, there are sunbeds and parasols for rent, plus paddle boats and other fun water sports. I’ve also hopped on a boat tour right from the beach and from the nearby marina — a great way to explore the coastline from the sea.
When I’m after a quieter beach day, I make a beeline for Little Beach — or Pellicer Beach, as it’s also known. It’s a peaceful, tucked-away cove just before you reach the marina. There aren’t any sunbed rentals here, so you’ll need to bring a towel and claim your own little patch of sand, but that’s part of the charm. There’s even a mobile library that comes by offering books and newspapers — which, for me, is the ultimate beach day setup.
If you’re travelling with young children or just want a quiet place to chill, Castellot Beach is ideal. It’s small — just 45 metres long — and framed by a rocky cliff that offers some lovely shaded areas in the afternoons.
The beach has pebbles rather than fine sand, but that’s never stopped me from enjoying a lazy afternoon here. Plus, it’s just a short stroll from the town square, where you’ll find snacks and drinks if you need a break from the sun.
If you’re looking for somewhere that feels a little more high-end, Port Adriano is just the place. I love coming here for a more sophisticated vibe — think luxury yachts, designer shops, and restaurants serving beautifully plated Mediterranean dishes. The marina feels sleek and modern, but still very much in tune with the relaxed Mallorcan atmosphere.
I often park in the free underground lot and spend the afternoon browsing shops or just sipping a drink by the water. In summer, Port Adriano really comes alive with events, live music, and even yoga classes at sunset. If you want to experience Mallorca’s chic side, this is where you’ll find it.
If you’re a bit of a history buff like me, Cruz del Descubrimiento is a must-visit. This large stone cross marks the landing spot of Jaume I — the king who reclaimed Mallorca from the Moors. You’ll find the cross standing proudly next to the Chapel of the Sacred Stone, overlooking the coastline with incredible views.
I especially love visiting in late summer when the annual festival takes place. Fireworks, music, and a festive atmosphere fill the air to commemorate the historical significance of the site. It’s a great way to connect with the island’s rich past.
Tucked above the town, Puig de Sa Morisca Archaeological Par is one of the most fascinating spots I’ve discovered in the Santa Ponsa area. The hike to the top is scenic (and not too challenging), and the views across Calvià and the coast are well worth the effort.
Once at the top, there’s a sprawling 35-hectare archaeological park with over 15 sites to explore. I’ve wandered the trails here many times, each visit offering something new to uncover. If you enjoy a blend of nature, history and a bit of exercise, this is the place to be.
One of Santa Ponsa’s most iconic landmarks, the Molino is a charming old windmill that dates back to 1818. I still remember the first time I saw it — towering over the landscape like something from a storybook. It’s been beautifully restored and makes for a great photo stop if you’re exploring the outskirts of town.
You can also pair a visit here with a stop at the harbour to watch the boats come and go — it’s a simple pleasure, but one of my favourite ways to unwind in the late afternoon.
For a truly unforgettable sunset, I always recommend heading to El Chiringuito in Costa de la Calma — just a short 3-mile drive from Santa Ponsa. This beach bar is something of a local secret, and it’s one of the most relaxed, romantic spots I’ve found on the island.
There’s nothing better than sipping a cocktail here while the sun melts into the horizon. Plus, if you’re feeling adventurous, there’s a rocky ledge nearby where locals and tourists alike dive into the sea — it’s quite the spectacle! The bar stays open late and often has live music, making it a fantastic spot for a laid-back night out.
Situated 12.5 miles from Santa Ponsa is the city of Palma, Mallorca’s capital. The drive is around 30 minutes by car and 35 minutes by public transport, making it easy to get there and back in one day.
Palma is renowned for its incredible beaches, great historical quarter and top sightseeing spots such as the Santa Maria Cathedral, Almudaina Palace and Plaza Mayor. There are also beautiful places in Palma to enjoy international cuisine or a few drinks, so you can sit and watch the hustle and bustle within the city’s walls.
If you are visiting Santa Ponsa during the summer months, Palma will be especially busy. The city is a popular tourist destination as many go here for the great designer shops, exquisite dining and excellent sightseeing.
Plenty is going on in Santa Ponsa, but if you want to feel the buzz of a Mallorcan city, a trip to Palma will do just the trick.
Magaluf is one of the top spots for partying in Mallorca. It is around 3 miles from Santa Ponsa and takes approximately 15 minutes to get there by car. However, if you choose to take public transportation to Magaluf, the journey can take anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes, depending on what train you catch.
For those seeking somewhere with lively nightlife, plenty of clubs and popular party places, Magaluf is where you want to go, as many say that it is the party capital of Mallorca.
