Beaches

Santa Ponsa is renowned for its excellent beach offering, with many holidaymakers choosing this destination for its superb resort that centres around tourists.

To learn more about the best beaches in Santa Ponsa, here are our top 3, so you know where to go when you have a craving for sun, sea and sand.

Santa Ponsa Main Beach

The main beach of Santa Ponsa is great for those looking for plenty of space, as the sandy shore is over 1,300 metres long and 100 metres wide. However, this beach can still get relatively crowded during the busier summer months, despite its large size.

With calmer waters and no strong currents, Santa Ponsa’s main beach is a great family option as swimming in the bay is generally safe for children. However, if it is particularly windy and the water appears a little rough, some roped, secure areas help guide swimmers to the safer spots.

Between May and October, sun loungers and parasols are available to rent on Santa Ponsa beach, alongside paddle boats and an array of other water sports equipment. In addition, there are options to take boat trips from the main beach and the Marina in Santa Ponsa; a great way to spend your day and explore the area from atop the water.

Little Beach (Pellicer Beach)

Little Beach is a small, secluded cove located en route to Santa Ponsa Marina. Pellicer is an excellent option for those who want to lounge on the sandy shores in peace, as it tends to be much quieter here than other nearby parts of the coast.

There aren’t many facilities at Little Beach, and you will have to bring your towel as you cannot rent sunbeds and parasols. However, if you are seeking a day away from the crowds, a mobile library service offers books and newspapers at this cove so that you can relax peacefully in the sun with a good read in hand.

Castellot Beach (Playa des Castellot)

Castellot Beach is located on the north side of Santa Ponsa and is a small, rocky beach, only 45 metres long and 7 metres wide. Its size makes it a great place to go with the family, as you don’t have to worry about the little ones wandering too far.

Small pebbles litter the shore, and a 5-metre high rock wall encompasses the cove, ideal for providing shaded spots. The closest facilities are 100 metres away in Santa Ponsa’s town square.

Port Adriano

The cross and the Chapel of the Sacred Stone commemorate the VII Centenary of the conquest of Mallorca, making it a great place to go if you seek to uncover some of Santa Ponsa’s history.

The Cruz del Descubrimiento dates back to 1929 when it was made by Tomas Vila Mayol. A great time to visit this site is in late summer when a festival takes place with fireworks to celebrate the reclamation of Spain from the Moors.

Puig de Sa Morisca Archaeological Park

Puig de Sa Morisca Archaeological Park sits atop a hill providing incredible views over Santa Ponsa and is a superb place for those who want to explore the Calvia area further.

Walking up the hill provides an excellent opportunity to take in the scenery from the peak. After marvelling over the views, 35 hectares of ground are open to the public to explore.

If you seek to find some exciting sightseeing, the archaeological park has more than 15 sites to explore, 9 of which have architectural features.

Molino de Santa Ponsa

The Molino de Santa Ponsa is the city’s windmill located on the outskirts of Santa Ponsa, one of the most famous landmarks tourists head to each year when visiting the area. Other great attractions are nearby; visiting the harbour to watch as the boats come in and out of the bay is a lovely pastime when in the region.

You can glimpse the large wooden structure when you fly into the airport at Santa Ponsa. Molino was built in 1818 and later restored in 1971, so it’s perfect for those hoping to explore some of the city’s history.

El Chiringuito

Watching the sunset at El Chiringuito provides visitors with a romantic setting to enjoy an evening outside of Santa Ponsa. The relaxed beach bar is in Costa de la Calma, just 3 miles from the town.

The beautiful dining area faces west, which helps to put you in the perfect position to enjoy a stunning sunset in Mallorca. The sunset isn’t the only thing that makes El Chiringuito attractive though, as there is also a substantial rocky ledge right next to the bar from which you can often spot locals and holidaymakers diving.

El Chiringuito opens at 11 am for breakfast and closes at 1 am. Live music often plays throughout the evenings, creating a lovely atmosphere for a night out when visiting Santa Ponsa.
