4 of the Best Family Things to Do in Puerto Pollensa

123 villas found.

I’ve visited a lot of places in Mallorca, but Puerto Pollensa will always hold a special place in my heart — especially as a destination for families. Nestled along the island’s northeast coast, this peaceful seaside town is one of those spots that instantly puts you at ease. Whether it’s your first trip to Mallorca or you’re returning for another sun-soaked holiday, Puerto Pollensa has that perfect mix of natural beauty and welcoming charm that makes you want to stay a little longer.

When we first arrived, it didn’t take long to understand why Puerto Pollensa is so popular with families. It’s not just about the golden beaches (though they’re truly stunning) or the calm, shallow waters that are ideal for little ones. It’s the whole vibe — relaxed, safe, and full of options to keep everyone in the family entertained.

We spent our mornings strolling along the Pine Walk, grabbing ice cream and watching the boats bob gently in the bay. The afternoons were for beach time, paddleboarding, or exploring the old town, where the local market buzzes with colour and life every Wednesday. Even the pickiest eaters in our group were happy, thanks to the huge variety of cafés and restaurants dotted around the marina.

Beyond the town itself, there’s so much to explore. We took a day to wander through nearby nature reserves, spotting birds and enjoying the stillness that comes with being surrounded by Mallorca’s raw, untouched beauty. It was one of those moments where you realise how much this island has to offer beyond just its coastlines.

If you’re considering a family trip to Mallorca, I genuinely recommend putting Puerto Pollensa at the top of your list. It’s the kind of place that gives you space to relax, plenty to do, and memories your kids (and you!) will talk about long after you return home.

I’ve visited quite a few towns across Mallorca, but there’s something extra special about Puerto Pollensa. Perched on the island’s northeast coast, it’s one of those places that just pulls you in — a mix of postcard-worthy scenery, warm local charm, and that perfect laid-back vibe. When we were planning our family trip to Mallorca, we kept hearing great things about Puerto Pollensa, and once we arrived, it totally lived up to the hype.

It’s no surprise that Puerto Pollensa is one of the most beloved towns in northern Mallorca — right up there with Pollensa and Alcudia. The golden sandy beaches are absolutely stunning, and there’s so much more than just sea and sun to enjoy. What stood out most for us, though, was how well this town caters to families. Whether it’s the ease of getting around, the welcoming atmosphere, or the sheer variety of things to do, it quickly became clear that Puerto Pollensa was the right choice for our family getaway.

Beyond the beautiful local beaches, which are perfect for lazy days or watersports, the town has a historic charm that’s easy to fall in love with. We spent a morning at the weekly market — a vibrant mix of local produce, crafts, and souvenirs — and later, wandered into nearby nature reserves where the kids were fascinated by the local wildlife. It’s one of those places where you don’t have to rush — there’s something for everyone, and no shortage of space to explore at your own pace.

Accommodation-wise, we were spoilt for choice. Whether you’re looking for a secluded countryside villa with mountain views or a family-friendly property within walking distance of the beach, Puerto Pollensa has something to suit every family size and style. We stayed just outside the town centre, surrounded by peaceful countryside but still close enough to walk into town for dinner. It really gave us the best of both worlds.

That’s exactly why I’ve pulled together some of our favourite family-friendly things to do in Puerto Pollensa, along with recommendations on where to stay — to help you plan your own unforgettable family break in this magical corner of Mallorca.

Visit a Beach

If there’s one thing we made sure to do (over and over again), it was spend time on the beaches. Puerto Pollensa’s beaches are some of the best in Mallorca for families, with their calm waters, scenic mountain backdrops, and plenty of space to spread out. Whether we were building sandcastles, taking a dip in the sea, or trying out watersports, every beach day felt like a little adventure.

Platja del Port de Pollensa

This became our go-to spot — Puerto Pollensa’s main beach is a long, inviting stretch of sand that’s just a short stroll from the harbour. What really made it great for our family was the shallow shoreline, perfect for paddling and safe swimming with younger kids. We spent hours just soaking in the view of the Formentor Mountains in the background while the kids played in the sand.

There are showers and toilets nearby (which made life a lot easier), and plenty of shops and places to grab snacks or lunch. If you’re up for something more active, there’s also windsurfing, paddleboarding, and even kitesurfing on offer — we saw lots of families giving it a go!

Platja de Formentor

On another day, we took the short drive (just under 20 minutes) to Platja de Formentor, and it was well worth it. This beach feels a bit more off the beaten track — surrounded by pine trees and nature, with crystal-clear turquoise waters that look straight out of a travel brochure.

It’s a narrower beach than Port de Pollensa’s main one, so it felt a little more intimate. There’s a beachside restaurant with a shaded terrace, and we rented loungers for the afternoon while the kids splashed in the shallows. Parking was available for a small fee, and the drive there, through winding mountain roads, was almost as beautiful as the beach itself.

Go On A Hike

One of the things I absolutely loved about Puerto Pollensa was how easy it was to swap beach days for something a bit more active without ever straying too far from town. Family-friendly hikes are plentiful here, and they’re a great way to explore the stunning natural beauty of northern Mallorca. One of our favourite walks — and probably the most iconic one in the area — is the Cala Bóquer trail.

Cala Bóquer Walk

If you’re visiting Puerto Pollensa and looking for an easy hike the whole family can enjoy, Cala Bóquer is a must. We set out from the edge of town one morning and found the path clearly signposted — just 10 minutes from the centre, near the roundabout where Carrer Ramon Vellenilla Lecuna meets the Urbanització de Boquer.

The walk itself took us through a quiet valley with spectacular views of the Tramuntana mountain range, and we were surrounded by the kind of rugged natural beauty you usually only see on postcards. It took about an hour each way at a leisurely pace, which was just right for us and the kids. When we finally reached the secluded Cala Bóquer bay, it felt like we’d stumbled on a hidden gem — untouched, peaceful, with huge boulders and views stretching all the way to Colomer Island.

It’s a gentle enough hike for most families, but still adventurous enough to feel like a real discovery. We packed snacks, water, and swimsuits — and honestly, we could’ve stayed there for hours just soaking it all in. Definitely one of the top family-friendly things to do in Puerto Pollensa.

For its sheer beauty alone, this is one of the best things to do in Puerto Pollensa for families that we would recommend.

Shop At Puerto Pollensa Market

The weekly market on Wednesdays quickly became one of our favourite days of the week in Puerto Pollensa, all because of the local market. If you’re in town midweek, don’t miss it — this is where the real heart of the community comes alive.

We arrived early (around 9 a.m.), and the town square — Plaça Miquel Capllonch — was already buzzing with activity. Stalls stretched across the square and nearby streets, selling everything from fresh fruit and vegetables to handmade crafts, textiles, local cheese, olives, and of course, plenty of souvenirs. For us, it was the perfect mix of local flavour and family fun — the kids loved picking out treats and little keepsakes, while we grabbed ingredients for a homemade dinner back at the villa.

More than just shopping, it was a chance to experience authentic Mallorcan culture, with locals chatting, bargaining, and stocking up for the week. It’s best to arrive early to avoid the crowds and get the best selection — and don’t forget to bring cash, as not all vendors take cards. It made for a lively and memorable morning that gave us a real taste of Puerto Pollensa life.

Go On A Boat Trip

If you’re planning a trip to Puerto Pollensa with your family, make sure you carve out time for a boat trip — it was one of the most unforgettable experiences of our stay. With so much of Mallorca’s charm tied to its coastline, hopping aboard a boat is the perfect way to explore the hidden coves, dramatic cliffs, and sparkling turquoise waters that surround the area.

We booked a half-day excursion from the Port of Pollensa, and it couldn’t have been easier. There are lots of operators offering different types of tours, but our top pick? The magical Blue Cave.

The Blue Cave

I can’t recommend the Blue Cave trip enough. It was around 2–3 hours in total, and from the moment we set sail, the kids were wide-eyed taking in the coastal scenery. As we approached the cave, the light changed and the water started glowing this surreal electric blue — it felt like we were stepping into a fantasy film. The reflection of the light inside the cave was absolutely mesmerizing.

On the way back, we stopped in a quiet bay for a swim and some snorkelling, which was a real highlight. Floating in the clear, warm water with the mountains in the distance and the sun on our backs — it was one of those rare moments where everyone was completely content.

This boat trip is definitely one of the top things to do in Puerto Pollensa with kids — fun, relaxing, and an amazing way to see the island from a totally different perspective.
